"Hi what would you like?" the little Vietnamese lady on the other side of the counter asked me as I had a quick glance over her bakery offerings.
"A sausage roll and a sauce please". She replied back with a cheeky grin on her face, "I get you the biggest one as you are a skinny boy and I fatten you up!"
Off-season is here though the season didn't finish the way I had visioned. The body has shut up shop and had enough for one year even though the mind was still raring to go!
After a sucsessful final race at the WTS Grand Final in Cozumel finishing 6th on the day and 6th on the WTS rankings for 2016, I returned home to Bunbury Western Australia, eager to get on the TT bike and plan my assault on the Nepean Triathlon and Noosa Triathlon to finish the year.
Training had gone well and I was confident in the work I had done that there was no reason I couldn't finish the year on a high.
The body had other ideas.
Nepean Triathlon would be unfortunately my last race for 2016 sustaining a small tear to the Soleus whilst, Jake Birtwhistle and myself battled it out during the run leg of the race. It would see me limp home for second and hope I could somehow recover for Noosa this weekend, however an MRI has unfortunately suggested toeing the line is not possible.
It's a disappointing way to end a year, however I'm a believer everything happens for a reason even if sometimes we can't make sense as to why at the time!
It's time for some 'Mad Chills' and some reflecting on what has been a massive year.
And maybe one or two trips to the bakery to get that sausage roll.
Lastly a massive thanks to everyone in my corner who keep supporting me to do what I do!
