I went to write the date down the other day and was shocked to see April already! Life as an athlete seems to fly along when your head is down whilst you toil away.
I’m currently in New Plymouth, New Zealand, and it's mean as! Though it was stink as tonight! For those not accustomed to the lingo here, let me translate - this evening I went riding and it was 4 degrees and raining cats and dogs not to mention the howling southerly! They say this will make me Taranaki Hardcore...we'll see!
The mountain was covered in snow the next morning true story!
I couldn’t open the door or change gears towards the end of the ride. Character building comes to mind or flat out crazy. The local I hooked up with for the session was anxiously waiting for the text all day to call off the ride. No such thing I replied when you’re toiling away chasing goals.
Training is going well and the consistency has never been better. It has me excited for the racing ahead.
Bermuda World Series is up next!
I’ve raced a few times this year testing the waters and getting that racing feeling back after being sidelined for the better part of last year.
Mooloolaba World Cup was first off and below what I expected finishing 15th, which certainly blew the rust right out!!
New Plymouth World Cup was up next and had me finishing 6th. Still short of what I wanted though I didn’t die wondering. I took off on the bike solo over the challenging bike course only to be caught half way through the run.
I’ll check back in after Bermuda with a race wrap as my World Series campaign for 2018 kicks off.
I don’t BELIEVE you have to be better than everyone else. I believe you have to be BETTER than you ever thought you could be. – Ken Venturi
